About our resources
Who are The Behaviour Change Compass resources for?
Our visual supports are made for anyone supporting behaviour change in everyday life: parents and carers, teachers and schools, allied health professionals and behaviour support practitioners, support workers, and workplaces. They're used with children, teenagers and adults.
What areas do the resources help with?
Our resources support emotional regulation, anxiety, autism, social skills, communication, self-worth, problem-solving and everyday routines. On All Resources, use the Focus area filter to see the tools for a particular need.
I'm new to this. Where should I start?
Choose one situation that's hard right now and one tool to match it. Many people start with a Behaviour/Anxiety Scale to name how the body is feeling, or an I Choose Chart for a specific moment, such as making a mistake or losing a game. Teach the tool during a calm moment, put it where the behaviour happens, and use the same words every time. Our blog post Why visual behaviour resources work explains how.
What's the difference between the product ranges?
- Behaviour Change Posters explain the "why" behind behaviour for the adults doing the supporting, and include scales, templates and worked examples.
- I Choose Charts set out, step by step, the choices a person can make in a specific situation.
- Communication Cards give a quick, portable way to communicate in the moment, for example Please Stop, Please Start and My Answer is Yes/No.
- Sunlight Ink Posters and Picture Books help children build self-worth and see mistakes as part of learning.
- Poster Booklets bring a whole series together in one book.
- Keyrings and Bookmarks keep the Behaviour/Anxiety Scale close at hand.
What is the Behaviour/Anxiety Scale?
It's a five-level, colour-coded scale (Code Blue to Code Red) that helps a person show how their body is feeling before they have the words for it, so the people around them can respond to the level, not just the behaviour. It comes in versions with and without faces, and with and without descriptions, so you can match it to the person's age and needs.
What is an I Choose Chart?
An I Choose Chart sets out the choices available in a particular situation and what each choice leads to. It makes the "what now?" visible. There are 36 charts for common situations at home, at school and with other people, plus a blank template and worked examples so you can create your own.
Which poster size should I choose?
Behaviour Change Posters come in A4, A3 and A1. A4 suits a fridge, a desk or a folder, A3 works well on a classroom or office wall, and A1 is a large display size for a classroom, staff room or clinic.
Are the resources evidence-based?
Our resources are developed by behaviour specialist Tanya Curtis, who has worked in the field since 2002. They're built on the principles of functional behaviour assessment, simplified into the Body Life Skills approach. Visual supports are also recognised in the research as an evidence-based practice. Read more on Our approach.
Do the resources replace professional advice?
No. Our resources provide general information and practical tools. They aren't a substitute for individual clinical, medical, psychological or other professional advice. Many practitioners use our tools alongside their own assessments and support plans.
Ordering
Can I order for a school, clinic or organisation?
Yes. For whole-class, whole-school, clinic or organisation orders, contact us with what you need and we'll help you set up a consistent toolkit and arrange postage for larger orders.
Can I use NDIS funding to buy your resources?
That depends on the participant's plan and how it's managed. Please check with the plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIA before you order. If you need specific details on your invoice, get in touch and we'll help where we can.
Do your prices include GST?
Yes. All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Postage is calculated at checkout.
Can I photocopy, scan or share the resources?
All our resources are protected by copyright. When you buy a printed product, you're welcome to use it for its intended purpose in your home, classroom, clinic or workplace, but it can't be copied, scanned, shared digitally or resold. Digital downloads can be printed as many times as you need within one household, classroom or practice, but the file can't be shared, emailed, uploaded or resold. For licensing or whole-school use, contact us. See our Terms of service for details.
Can I buy a digital download instead of a printed copy?
Yes. Our posters, I Choose Charts, poster booklets and picture books are available as a digital download (PDF) as well as in print. Choose Digital download (PDF) under Format on the product page. There's no postage, and you'll receive an email with your download link as soon as your payment is confirmed. Because files can't be returned, we don't offer change-of-mind refunds on digital downloads, but if a file is faulty or won't open we'll replace it or refund you.
Postage and delivery
Where do you post to?
We currently post within Australia only. If you're outside Australia, contact us and we'll see what we can do.
How much is postage, and how long does it take?
All orders go with Australia Post, and postage is calculated at checkout based on weight. Standard post usually takes 3–5 business days after dispatch and is free on orders of $100 or more. Express post usually takes 1–2 business days after dispatch. We aim to send orders within 2–3 business days and will email you a tracking number. Remote and regional deliveries can take longer.
How are posters packed?
A4 and A3 posters are sent flat with a stiff backing board. A1 posters are rolled and sent in a postal tube. Books, booklets and cards are sent in padded mailers.
